This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of a type of allium, or onion flower, called Black Garlic, made over a period of 326 hours as it flowered.

The scape, or stalk, carries a dense umbellate inflorescence with purple star-like flowers.

The allium flower symbolises unity, humility, and patience. The Latin root of the word onion, "unio," means one or unity, and the plant was given this name because it grows from a single bulb. Alliums are edible, although only the bulbs and leaves are usually consumed.

Archival pigment print on smooth light gloss Canson Baryta 310gsm art paper.
