The collections

ANIMALS
These unique and iconic animal portraits use minimal abstract backgrounds to draw attention to the myriad levels of detail in Nature’s grand design.
Whether we are looking at the magnified eye of a bullfrog, or a galloping horse captured at several thousandths of a second, it is the stillness of these photographs that gives us time to pause and reflect on the wonderful diversity of life on Earth.

BIRDS
A curated selection of my stylised bird portraits. Animal photography is about being ready for the split-second moment when it happens. This is seldom more true than when capturing birds in flight. The human eye can’t process the speed at which birds fly. The only way we can fully appreciate the beauty of feathered flight is to watch it in slow motion or freeze it at several thousandths of a second.

BOTANICAL OPTICALS
These symmetrical floral mandala patterns promote a sense of relaxation and wellbeing. The mandala is traditionally used in Buddhism and Hinduism to represent the universe. It was also the famous psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s chosen archetype for the whole self. An archetype in the deeper layer of our unconscious Jung called the ‘Collective Unconscious’. He believed that the mandala resonates with spiritual and historical connection, and represents both the individual’s whole self and our universal collective unconscious. They are beautiful symbols to meditate with and focus on, and visually vibrate with a calm, balanced energy.

STILL LIFE
Photographs are often referred to as stills. The ability to freeze a moment in time allows us to explore the world in suspension and will often reveal a beauty that might otherwise flash by in the blink of an eye and remain unnoticed.
However the word still also applies to still-life, or the examination of static objects, which allows us to pause, observe and contemplate the world as an endless series of remarkable details.

Textile designer Sue Maton on our recent Botanical Opticals show.
"I loved this show. I loved it so much that one of the prints now hangs at the top of my stairs.
"The images in Platt’s work originate from photographs of individual flowers manipulated into intriguing circular patterns and the work boldly presents itself as unapologetically beautiful; a softly spoken antidote to the noise of so much self-referential and self-conscious contemporary art.
"This is art to be gazed at and art to lose yourself in its ambiguities and visual complexities. Give yourself enough time and you’ll find your own associations in the micro and the macro; planets, whole universes, atomic structures, starbursts, snowflakes, celtic art, mandalas, the primal and the contemporary."

Tim Platt
For Tim, photography is above all about the simple joy of seeing. After over 25 years experience of delivering international advertising campaigns for blue chip companies like Unilever, P&G, Samsung, LG, Britvic and GSK among many others, Tim has mastered the craft and technique required at the highest echelons of commercial photography. He has always combined these commissions with developing his own personal creative work.
He still runs his own studio in central London, although he and his family have now enjoyed living in Norwich for 15 years. He believes that although craft and technique should not be underestimated, it is a mysterious neural connection between the eye and the brain that makes great images, and technique will always remain safely behind the scenes. Nowhere does this connection matter more than when an image is framed on a wall, where it will be enjoyed for many years to come.
