This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of a Coral Peony made over a period of 63 hours as it flowered.

Coral peonies symbolise romance, beauty and prosperity, which makes them a popular choice for weddings. Pink peonies are also usually more fragrant than red peonies. Since medieval times peony flowers, roots and seeds have been reputed to have medicinal properties and legend has it that the peony, or Paeonia, is named after Paeon, who studied under Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. Peonies are an enduring symbol of wealth, honour, and beauty in Eastern culture and are called Mudan in China.
