From my ongoing Memento Flores series.

Flower pressing is the ancient art of preserving flowers and other botanicals between two flat surfaces until they dry.

I like to think of flower pressing as a precursor to the invention of photography. The process allows us, without a camera, to capture the fleeting beauty of flowers in perpetuity. 3000 year old dried flowers have been discovered in the Egyptian pyramids.

When dried flowers are photographed and printed larger than life, they become almost sculptural. They seem to transcend the confines of the two-dimensional print surface with a tactile, three-dimensional quality that makes you want to touch them.

Tulips are said to represent unconditional love. The purple turple is associated with royalty, and also symbolises rebirth, and is therefore a perfect colour for spring.

Archival pigment prints are made on smooth matt Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm heavyweight art paper.
