This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of pink Dahlias made over a period of 116 hours as they flowered.

The ever-popular Dahlia is attributed to complex layers of meaning and significance. They are popular at weddings as a symbol of an everlasting union. In the Victorian era, they came to be associated with the values of elegance, inner strength, creativity, change, and dignity.

Red dahlias typically represent strength and power, while pink dahlias represent grace and kindness. Dahlias are considered edible and are part of the regional cuisine of Oaxaca in Mexico. An extract obtained from the tubers contains a form of sugar called inulin, a precursor to insulin, which used to be given to diabetics in the early 20th century.

Archival pigment print on smooth light gloss Canson Baryta 310gsm art paper.
