Victorians associated the Amaryllis flower with feminine strength and power. The giving of the Amaryllis flower in the Victorian era symbolized significant respect and admiration.
In addition to the popular red variety, the Amaryllis can be purple, pink, yellow or white. The color white is often said to symbolize purity and spirituality. White Amaryllis flowers can also symbolize children and innocence.
