This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of red and yellow Tulips made over a period of 94 hours as they flowered.

Originally from Persia and Turkey, tulips were brought to Europe in the 16th century, where they got their common name from the Persian word “Tulipan” for turban. According to legend, a Turkish Prince was so overcome by the death of his lover that he rode his horse over a cliff and a red tulip sprang from each drop of his blood, giving the red tulip an association with love and passion, while the yellow tulip is associated with cheerfulness and joy.
