Peonies are herbaceous perennials with impressive, thick and ruffled blooms. Named after Paeon, who studied with Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. The root, bark, seed and flowers have been believed to have anti inflammatory medicinal properties in eastern Asia and Europe for many hundreds of years. For the Chinese the peony is an auspicious symbol and recently voted the national flower of China. Peonies are an enduring symbol of wealth, honour and beauty.
