This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of Oriental Poppies made over a period of 71 hours as they flowered.
Also known as the Bolero or Papaver orientale. These beautiful flowers successfully reseed themselves to grow in the wild or even in adverse urban environments. This makes them easy to care for and they have been a gardener’s favourite for thousands of years. Ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Roman societies linked them with sleep due the sedative effect of the plant’s sap. The symbolism of the Poppy varies from country to country, but few flowers have played such an important role in religion, mythology, politics, and medicine.
