Photography is essentially a process of abstracting an image from the world around us. Usually these images are clearly representational of recognisable things but macro photography allows us to make heroes of small details that become increasingly abstract the more they are magnified. Thus a tiny icicle melting in the spring sunshine can become something monumental and fascinating when enlarged as a large format print.
