Iris was the Greek goddess of the rainbow and the messenger of the Olympian gods. Clothed in a cloak of raindrops, she communicated via a rainbow, the bridge between Heaven and Earth. This may explain why the iris flower is said to symbolise communication and eloquence. Irises come in different colours which have different meanings but but the most common and well-known is the purple iris, which is associated with faith, courage and wisdom.
